Fishing
Fishing for Fun!

Fishing is a skill that has no greater reward at this time. Like all other skills, the more advanced you are, the more you accomplish. For best results, use the 100/50 option. Say "FISH" to the NPC who will tell you that he will let you borrow some equipment (for a price which he does not mention!). Select a stick and a good string for 100 coins; then choose some bugs for another 50 coins.

You will see a popup letting you know whether or not you caught anything.

Fishing will take away vitality and karma but in very small amounts. Every 5 to 10 attempts you will find that your health is suffering which means you will lose 1 vita point. Many players use this method to reduce their statistics so they can enter lower level caves or carnages.

You can lose an extremely small amount of karma when you "ignore your responsibilities".

Occasionally you will get a message talking about a magical fish. Yes the same fish the random merchant rarely talks about! Finding the magical fish is most of the time NOT a good thing. Most of the time, your line snags and you die! This is usually a PK death and doesn't damage your items. Sometimes the magical fish mocks you and swims away! Rarely you will fish "Sea Melodies" which is a spell item needed by some players. On extremely rare occasions you can fish a Flameblade! Don't get your hopes up too much. The DreamWeaver once indicated that the chances of capturing a flameblade are 1/10,000.

As your skills progress, you will catch better fish and more at one time. If you choose to pay for better equipment you will catch bigger fish but you won't gather more than using the cheaper equipment. Like all skills, advancement is based on success not quantity. You can use the fish you catch for eating or cooking (Boiled fish). If you do not wish to become a cook, sell your fish to someone who is a cook.
