BIG MAGE, little imp

Hey folks! A lot of you may be aware already, but there's a big bad in the newly discovered Frozen Fortress that wanders the first two areas, Fortress Great Hall and Fortress Place of Arms. Stygian archmage beats anyone close enough with a wicked pulsing orb, but if you're lucky to beat him he'll drop a Black amber, Mystic potion, or a rare magical artifact that offers a unique additional legend mark!
But even if you're lucky enough to get one (see "Event under 99" Community post by GM mir), you have to make it through Fortress Corridors, east to Frozen Guardroom, and north to Fortress Ice Dungeon to spend the Imp seal on the gate.
Doing so will grant you the legend mark and some karma, but apparently Lucky himself is not so lucky this time.

Pre 99 Event update!

GM mir posted on the Community board an update addressing some community member's concerns on the new event. It seems there are now level 75 versions of the hand items to get as well, so our previous post has been updated with those stats!

Ghosts in the pre-event snow area have been adjusted to 10% of their original difficulty. We removed the level block that was protecting people. Crossing and entering the Frozen Fortress is now doable again but it's still a hard task to cross alone.

Covenant's New Primogen

After many years of service to Covenant clan Primogen Anrak has decided to pass the position to another. The new Primogen of Covenant clan is Primogen Leviticus. Leviticus had this to say: "I would like to thank my former Primogens before me, from Windbreakerx all the way through Anrak. I am thankful and appreciative of this prestigious position. I will continue with Covenant's mission to attract and provide a unified home for all Nangens. I look forward to the work!"

Platinum Jubilee Gauntlet color update
|
Along with this most recent update the hand item "Platinum Jubilee Gauntlet" received a color change. Now instead of its old gold, it has turned to a Koguryo Blue. This is fitting since this item was received by attendees at King Yuri's 75th Platinum Jubilee ball back in the day! This change comes as the new warrior hand item from the Stygian Order now has the gold color graphic.

Event Walkthrough - Fighting or Aiding the Stygian Order

1. Talk to HaggardWitch in Artic Village (lower right near a cave and before chapel)
2. Talk to Sanyang and head into the Glacial Forest towards the Frozen Fortress. Below you can find the coordinates to get through the long road.

3. Talk to Hwasal and click "Hwasal's Quest" - Make sure to purchase a few Stygian Talisman to warp back
4. Say "Quintessence" to him 5. Head to Kinung's Town Hall and speak to Mihi. Talk to her in every option.
6. Before you head back, go to Kinung's Market area to find Kimoni and purchase 10 "Alchemy flask"
7. Use your talisman and head inside the fortress, kill mobs and collect 20 of each essence (Fire, Earth, Wind, Thunder, Ice, Air). 8. Once you collect 20 of each, you will need to make elixirs at the six cauldrons. - #1: Fortress Great Hall - 18, 108 - Earth - #2: Frozen Place of Arms - 32, 128 - Fire - #3: Frozen Place of Arms - 86, 98 - Water - #4: Frozen Place of Arms - 83, 32 - Ice - #5: Fortress Corridors - 5, 22 - Thunder - #6: Frozen Guardroom - 45, 7 - Air
9. Use shift + i and open up creation system to combine these elixirs.
Earth elixir flask + Fire elixir + Alchemy flask = Magma Elixir Flask Ice elixir flask + Thunder elixir flask + Alchemy flask = Plasma Elixir flask Air elixir flask + Water elixir flask + Alchemy flask = Wave Elixir Flask
Then it's time to make a choice: Wave + Magma + Plasma + Pure Light + Flask = Quintessence flask (Good route) - OR - Wave + Magma + Plasma + Tainted Flask + Flask = Chaotic essence flask (Evil route)
Note from the options above: A. Pure Light can be bought from Hwasal. B. Any wrong combination of 2 elements + Alchemy flask = Tainted flask
10. Head to the Forge room on the top left corner of Corridors and stand in front of the forge to turn in your Quintessence flask or your Chaotic essence flask.
Using the Quintessence flasks at the Arcane Forge will grant you some karma boost and give you "Fought Against the Stygian Order" legend mark.
Using the Chaotic flasks at the Arcane Forge will remove some karma (very low) and give you "Aided the Stygian Order" legend mark.
Upon completing the event you will be awarded one of two legend marks and a hand item of your path/rank. Check the stats of the Luminous hand items at the next post by theSavior.

The Glacial Forest and the road to the Frozen Fortress

As reported earlier by theSavior, there has been a late-night/early morning reset that introduced the next chapter of the Stygian Order saga. After discovering that Mupa and Wiyae are also members of that mysterious Order, we can now finally fight directly the acolytes, zealots and other minions following the Sinister Witch and the Necromancer.
To begin the event head to the Arctic Village and head east right when you enter the village. You'll find the HaggardWitch right next to a cave entrance. Click her to hear about how she put a temporary portal to a faraway land called "Glacial Forest" and after you're done talking with her, enter the cave.
In the very first room, you'll find Sanyang, the leader of the Dark-Hunters. Click him to hear about his goals and how Hwasal found a stronghold of the Stygian Order. Then, get ready for a very long walk. Make sure you have a mount as the next part will require you to traverse along 27 rooms. Make sure you follow the guide below as you can easily get lost in what HaggardWitch called as "the Frostlands".
Glacial Forest → Icebound Crossroads (right path) → Frozen Woods → Snow Steppes → Frostwall Corridor → Frostwall Access → Snowy Caverns → Frostwall Ravine → Snow Dual Pass (South path) → Chillbreath Access → Chillbreath Pass → Snow Corral → Ice Maze → Frozen Maze → Blizzard's Mayhem → Chill's Pass → Blizzard's Way → Frozen Pond's Way → Ice Crystal Lake → Slashed Ice → Blizzard's Twist → Chillbreath Ponds → Blizzard's Gauntlet (southeast) → Winter's Grove → Thaw Grotto (middle) → Chillbreath Grotto → Chillbreath Hills and finally you'll reach the Frozen Fortress.
In your journey through the Frostlands you'll encounter several new creatures such as Fog tigers, Snow Crawlers, Frost Beetles, Ice Spirits, Ice Trees, and Yetis!
Once you reach the Fortress, make sure you buy some Stygian talismans from Hwasal, which will help you warp back to the Frozen Fortress if you need to leave. Each of them costs 9,000 and has a 1-time use just like a yellow scroll.
Talk with Hwasal about "Hwasal's Quest" and then enter the Frozen Fortress Great Hall to get the legend mark "discovered the Frozen Fortress".
There are 4 types of enemies there: Stygian archers, Stygian assassins, Stygian acolytes and Stygian zealots. They drop 6 types of elemental essences: fire, water, earth, air, ice, and thunder. You can collect up to 100 of each.

Suprise Showdown against Mupa and Jieut

Yesterday seemed like it would be a calm day in the lands of Nexus and while everyone was preparing to get their lucky nets to capture Lucky and cash in some pots of gold, what happened in the late evening was nothing like that.
Instead of finding lucky people found thousands of Pinamu trees were escaping from the Darkwoods Thickets and attacking the citizens of Buya. Not just that, but that, but it seemed like the Necromancer was also spawning his Bewitched Cadavers and Bewitched Skuldiers. The final showdown against the witch Mupa, the Necromancer Jieut, and also the sorcerer Wiyae lasted for hours and made many victims.
In the aftermath of the battle, the Dark Hunters were finally freed from the cave they were imprisoned and just like the Diviners have foreseen in their Augury visions, the Dark Hunters now prepare a strike back.

BOARD TITLE: Dream Weaver FROM: NexusTK DATE: 3/17 SUBJECT: The Dark Hunters Strike Back After weeks fighting off the treefolk army in the Darkwoods, the community finally had a confrontation Mupa. Lurking in the shadows, the Sinister Witch launched coordinated raids in the Islets and at East Buya, along with the Wicked Sorcerer and the Spectral Necromancer. Together the three brought forth a horde of blood trees and undead skeletons killing dozens in their way.
Led by Queen Lasahn, the heroes of the tri-kingdoms fought bravely to contain the new threat and protect the citizens of Buya. After hours of battle Mupa and her associates finally retreated.
From there on, it was just a matter of time until the magic sealing the cave in the Darkwoods Thickets would finally give in. The community's joint effort helped free Sanyang and the others and helped reunite Ara with her husband just in time for the birth of their child.
Now, Sanyang and Hwasal are preparing a strike back at the newly discovered stronghold of the Stygian Order. They both head north for their next battle against the forces of darkness. |
This concluded the Valentine's Darkwoods Thickets event and paved the way to introduce the next chapter in the battles against the Stygian Order.
Also, if there was any doubt left, now it's quite clear that Jieut is working with Mupa.

The Diviners experience new Augury Visions

Diviners across the lands were hit with strange Augury Visions once again this afternoon. Below are their accounts posted to the Chronicles of the Winds boards.

I awoke abruptly from my sleep after receiving a dark omen..Sweat pouring down my forehead as I tried to process what this all meant..an Augury.
An icy wind surrounds me. What is this feeling I sense? A chill that cannot quite be explained. My bones are at it's tipping point. Surely something grave is about to occur. But how will I know for sure? I stress my mind for more detail..
A menacing presence is felt..a star. A six pointed object glows ominously as a foul stench is accompanied by it's presence. An uncomfortable feeling resides in my being as I search for answers. What could this possibly mean and how would I be able to warn the others?
The beasts start to squirm. The imps are congregating in groups while howling and screeching to one another in a manner that is unfamiliar to us. I kept hearing their screeches in my head. I knew this was a sign of things to come..but what? I could not ignore the omen.
The defense mounts an assault. The community of protectors are seen gathering in my dreams. The planning, deciphering and suggestions are starting to formulate. How will this eventuality end up? I must do everything in my power to warn them...so whe can prepare.

While in the depths of the Ancient Hunting Grounds surrounded on my sides by a mass of bears. A chill went up my spine and a noise in the distance.
I begin to feel the air chill and my breath around me. My skin begins to raise with goosebumps. A bright flash shoots over the southern sky. I hold my hand over to block the sun just to catch a glimpse of a six-pointed star darkly glowing, as if it were eclipsing along side a shooting star.
A vision of a bars and a mob of imps eagerly grinning as if they know something we do not yet fully understand. A lead imp glares directly at me as if they see me looking at him.
Groggy I awake to the bears mauling at my armor. I escape after a near death to a pack of hungry bears.
A call to all hunters ready your swords, blades, wands, and scepters. We must be ready and steadfast. Do not sit idle but remain vigilant.

I rest against the wall at the West gate of Kugnae, my lance held tight within my grasp. My head resting lazily against my chest and my eye lulling closed in temptation of a nap...
Then suddenly there is darkness. My eye goes wide but all that is seen is the goosebumps snaking across my exposed skin, a chilling breath threatens the back of my neck.
I look around to see no wall, no people, no roads - but before me, almost hiding, a six pointed star glows darkly in the absence of light.
To my left bars hold back jagged smiles outlined in their clusters. As they move the shadows give way to the form of imps, one over the next; they are held within a dungeon.
To my right charms and surges glow with power, spikes and bloods are drawn in offensive stance... The hunters prepare to strike back.
A blink and I am home... for now... |
BOARD TITLE: Chronicles of the Winds FROM: Sieo DATE: 3/17 SUBJECT: Augury Vision
I sat meditating in the Tao Te Ching, a rare moment of peace for me. The waterfall created a wonderful white noise that helped block out the general sounds of the comings and goings. Without warning, images began to flit across my vision through the tumbling water.
A looming shadowy figure towers over me, even though they are kneeling down. Even through the image, I can feel the cold breath of this individual chilling me from goose-flesh to bone.
Pointing a finger towards the sky, I watch in horror as the star that creates The Dragon's Head in the constellation grows from four points to six and turns a sickly color akin to dried blood.
The shadowy figure then points down and, looking at its feet, I see the earth open up. Within, our dear friend Lucky cowers with his kin, the earthen and stone tunnels closing in on them.
Lastly, the figure held out its hand, palm down, and into the dungeon spilled what seemed every fighter, rogue, mage, and poet in our lands. Each one had a hungry look and cleaved their way through anything and everything that stood in their way in the dungeon.
Dark tidings indeed, my fellow citizens of the Kingdoms and wild lands. Be guarded and judged your actions carefully. Know what it is you do and why you do it.

BOARD TITLE: Chronicles of the Winds FROM: Teeter DATE: 3/17 SUBJECT: Augury Vision
I awake, with my hands on my staff, having taken a short rest investigating the people of malgalod. Something is amiss, something far greater than the closed-up doors of each of their houses and palaces.
I close my eyes, and let my spirit wander, to the place it needs to be. At the foot of a dark, barren ruin, is where my spirit, and in time, my body arrives. I take a step forward, to be held in a cold embrace. Permeating through my bones, the air reeks of death, of darkness.
A creature steps up, tiny, weak, and almost playfully impish- but with eyes radiating depthless darkness. Albeit its frailty, can sense it be not a spawn of nature, but rather one of foul sources.
With a spell at hand, I raise my staff to send the creature back to dust. As the flames rise to engulf it, a pattern lights up from the ground, an abysmal black that obscures the creature that stands upon it.
A star, a six-pointed one at that.
I take a step back, and observe, as my flames wither, and the creature fades back into the darkness, safe and unharmed. While seemingly powerless, but there must be more where that came from - and with something we know not about.
Prepare for onslaught, friends. Never underestimate the small.

Today Tigers in Kugnae roared in anticipation as Moss has passed on the mantle of Primogen. Emerging in his Tiger scowl, the new Primogen LinuxKiddy proudly will be serving the Tiger Clan of Koguryo.

Warning about "peasant chars"

Hey folks! Justice Archon Halon has issued the following statement on a concerning trend in the community:

Hello Community,
While we have had inappropriate names created by newcomers and regged players in the past, they have been for the most part mild and annoying. New players create them from lack of knowledge of our standards, while existing players use them to gain attention, or voice complaints. The names are removed from game, and no further action really needed.
But recently, there has been an uptick in both frequency and severity, using crude sexual terms, or insults and accusations directed at regged players. Obviously, these come from existing players hiding their main's identity while harassing and antagonizing players. This will not be tolerated.
Please familiarize yourself with Law 196. When a name exceeds common limits of decency, the peasant char will still be removed from game, but we may also link that to the regged player who created it when possible, and treat it as if the established player said, posted or saged it. The full range of punishment will be determined by severity, up to any level of jailing and may be applied to the actual character.
We hesitate to initiate this stronger policy, but 99% of our community are good people, who come here to relax and have fun, not to be subjected to this treatment by others.
I speak now to that other 1%:

For reference, here are a few images of unregistered novices gathering and presenting themselves in a frequented public setting.
The top of the above images happened yesterday, while the other two occurred a few years ago.
Sometimes it's vague what the purpose of such a gathering is. Occasionally there is a specific roleplaying purpose to it. In any case it usually seems to serve as a means for one player to exploit the ability to have multiple, new characters to distract or engage many other players.
I'm sure there are many other examples of "peasant abuse" out there that might be inappropriate for NexusAtlas reporting. However, feel free to N-mail me if you have information to share about this topic!

Many rejoice that ATG is back, Valentines event still open.

-Valentines cave stays open a little longer, if you haven't done the quest/event please do so asap. ATG is back with a new twist!

ATG is open
- New balanced split option to enter lower caves is introcued.
- The exp is boosted by about 40%, on a par with the current event caves. Will go back to normal when the event closes.
- The event will be open a little longer until the ATG caves stabilize, and for you to compare. When the event closes, the exp will go back to normal.
- ATG is temporarily on the event server.
- Change: In balanced caves, group exp is given according to the receiver not the hitter.
Let us know which split system you prefer. Thank you.

-ATG re-opens with a brand new cave split system
Warning! All spells are dispelled when you get the split popup! do not start rage/cunning outside of the cave or you'll have to potentially wait and start over.
-Balancers remain as a spell permanently until you receive a new popup from ATG caves.
