2011 Retrospective

It is the last day of the year again and when we reach this day in Nexus Atlas is time to recapitulate what were the most important happenings during the year: remember the events, look back on who took leadership positions and recall the changes and upgrades to the lands along the year.

Are you ready to go back in time? Then enjoy the lines below:

January 2011:
1. A Baekho helmet was dropped by a creature and was found by Zylon. It was engraved as bonded to "Yun". A mysterious man called Goeyu came to retrieve it.
2. Ninked was approached by the random merchant and was offered important information in exchange for money. As he paid for it, he found out that "the lost princess isn't really lost". Could it be related to Yun's helmet?
3. Jaded Enchantress escaped from the Anchorite 3 cave and caused a mess at west gate Vortex.
4. Sweetness became primogen of Heavens Clan, Xzine became primogen of Tiger clan and Magura became primogen of Lost Kingdom clan, Arto became primogen of Bear Clan and Mesocute returned as primogen of Oceana. 5 primogen shifts in a single month.

February 2011:
1. Tent of Requirement is opened at Tangun, a place to provide more space for community members to hold events. It leads to Study spot, Training spot, Entertainment Spot, Mystic Spot, Secret Spot and others.
2. Yusa Pit has been opened permanently. A public and free arena similar to Crusades.
3. During Valentine's day, Walsuk thought Ox was cheating on her. Citizens helped Walsuk spy on Ox and found out he was actually preparing a romantic surprise for her.
4. First option of status giving necklaces was released: Heart Chained Pendants, which were given as a reward for helping Ox and Walsuk.
5. Butterfly love! During Valentine's, saying "I love you (color) butterfly would get them to drop chocolate items.
6. Hiahoj became elder of Spy Guild and Mavelle became the first primogen of K'urimja clan (successors of Shadow subpath) who wasn't a Rogue. Mavelle continues to be K'urimja primogen.

March 2011:
1. With the resignation of Spades, Teikari was announced as the new mayor of Kinung town.
2. Carnage staff announced a new Head Host: Valkie.
3. Armies of Koguryo and Buya got new uniforms of the soldiers as well as Nagnang Ascendant Regiment for their soldiers and marks.
4. Spy grey dye has been released, but information on how to obtain it has been kept secret to their path members.
5. Lucky creature has been found again and those who captured it found the Pot of Gold.
6. A bonded item return box became available at Kruna shop. It helps restore lost bonded items such as Wind armors, Sun armors, Staff of the Elements, etc.
7. Klatu became primogen of Silla clan.

April 2011:
1. April's fool had a joke about and "impending Alien invasion". Citizens were able to wear Sentai armors.
2. Nexus suffered a big loss as retired Diviner elder, Sarina passed away.
3. Tutors became able to give additional legend marks for class attendance/participation;
4.
5. Bunny mount was introduced and opened way to various other mounts.
6. The identity of Archon Primogen was revealed by KRU. Dalnum was actually Sarina and the mourning of her loss made Archons bloom Sunflowers which were her favorite.
7. A monument was raised for Sarina/Dalnum at Dae shore and a memorial was held by Diviner's path in honor of their lost leader.
8. Earth day event was held and citizens helped Restore Nature's faith in Mankind.

May 2011:
1. Rogue traps changed so they now disappear after 15 minutes if they have not been set off.
2. The tree of reflections has fully recovered from Earth's day.
3. NewSox became new elder of Spy. Previous elder didn't complete 3 months in front of the path's leadership.
4. As a tribute to Dalnum Archons held a "Help day" which allowed them to help mortals with questing, hunting, and even bloodlusting during 1 day of the year.
5. Woodlands Diary quest took a step forward as citizens uncovered that to make a Plate of Metal you need: 15 Plated armor, 10 fine, 8 Armor, 3 Hot coal.
6. Long lasting Monk elder, LiShen, has stepped down in favor or Collyn who is still elder of the path.
7. Sam san and Sa san Blood and Nimble blade have had their stats upgraded to help balance the paths.
8. WildBeast became primogen of Elendhirin clan and Deathsgift became primogen of The Forsaken.
9. Wiyae invaded Koguryo library and stole some mysterious books. As he tried to escape, Mupa and Hawkmori had to help him. King MuHyul and his soldiers went after them and eventually got Hawkmori imprisoned. Wiyae and Mupa were able to escape unharmed.
10. New eagle mount was released.
11. Teragg becomes Head Judge again.

June 2011:
1. After a lockdown, Covenant clan gets a new Primogen: Izabella. The Forsaken was also on a lockdown and Belladonna was elected to lead the clan. Belladonna continues to lead the clan.
2. Koguryo had a defender's ceremony which honored 12 citizens who pledged to defend the kingdom.
3. Mupa stroke down Spies during a Sunday Revel's reading. Seems she doesn't have issues to go back to Koguryo palace anymore.
4. Within less than a month, Covenant clan had another primogen shift. This time CareForgot has taken over.
5. Heavens clan also had a primogen shift after a short term: Chic became primogen.

July 2011:
1. Nexus 13th anniversary brought back the anniversary swords.
2. 13th wisdom clothes were released to those born before the great shift: YeolSeBeunZe robe and YeolSeBeunZe gown and for the first time ever they came together with a wig.
3. Wisdom star approached during anniversary celebrations.
4. Kenzi returned as elder of Geomancer.
5. Commissioned jobs became available again.
6. Nagnang held a defender's ceremony which honored 23 new pledges to defend the kingdom.

August 2011:
1. Additional screenshot triggers were added to accommodate players without a scroll lock button: Use Ctrl+Shift+3 to take a .bmp screenshot and Ctrl+Shift+4 to take a .jpg screenshot
2. Carnage prize collection for winning carnage events can be done once every 6 hours instead of once every 24 hours like it used to be.
3. AndriA became primogen of Viper clan.
4. various new mounts have been released at Kruna shop by purchasing a "Random Mount Package": fox, scorpion, chicken, pig, wolf and others with many different colors.
5. Warik became primogen of Lost Kingdom again and continues at the spot.
6. Changes in the Mage subpaths: ColdPrincess became elder of Diviners and BeffyCabeza became elder of Shamans.
7. BIA got a new General, Lindy and Covenant clan has reopened from a second lockdown in the year, in which Lauz, who recently stepped down from The Forsaken, was elected.
8. Scud became Premier (elder) of Spy Guild.
9. Sage of Eternal Order of Nagnang, Sloepoke, became primogen of Alizarin clan.

September 2011:
1. Lost Mines has been reopened.
2. New sub accessories, Bones of the Seeker, could be collected from Lost Mines’ leeches’ boss.
3. Hairy Goblin Potion could be obtained, an item similar to mimic spell.
4. Citizens who "Braved Lost Mines" could find a new area called "Blazing River" which led to the trials by Air, Water, Earth and Fire. At the end of trials they could find Taek Pae, Blacksmith Beard's brother which was searching for Phoenix ore to make a splendid sword for the King.
5. Citizens were able to cheer up a bored rock.
6. Polgandra became new primogeness of Pegasus clan and Guerrund became primogen of Phoenix again. They both continue at their duty.
7. New judge appointed: Mintaka.
8. AphroditeXO became elder of Merchants again.
9. New carnage champion legend marks were released.
10. Taek Pae arrived at Beard's smith and citizens could begin the quest for etched weapons.

October 2011:
1. Inflamed became primogen of Covenant clan and continues leading the clan up to this day.
2. King SuroKim of Kaya and Dowager Empress Jeewon got married, making her now Queen Jeewon of Kaya.
3. The Little Shop was opened at Kinung, as a part of the quest to created etched weapons.
4. Nagnang got a new Sage of Eternal Order: Pitseleh, who continues in office.
5. Trick or Treat costumes came became available again during Halloween celebration.
6. Moon Shard, Silver arrows and other interest findings were found at Dark Forest hunting camp.
7. Various Halloween type items were released at Kruna shop.

November 2011:
1. A strange man called Omyer. Although he's a "Commoner" by path, he seemed pretty wealthy judging by his Sun armor and items.
2. PlagueS sadly passed away leaving friends and family.
3. New judge was appointed: LotusEmber.
4. Stuffed turkey and various other items were launched at Kruna shop.

December 2011:
1. Nexus TK rixty reloadable cards was launched.
2. Nexus Atlas launched a small new section dedicated to Voice commands.
3. Winter snow reached the lands again.
4. Nexus Atlas suffered a malicious code injection in its pages with left it vulnerable to malware for a few days.
5. Christmas clothing, candy canes, snow balls and gift wrapping became available for holiday season.
6. Another Santa M'hul event was held and the royals King MuHyul, Princess Lasahn and Prince ChaeRi gave away thousands of random gifts.
7. Santa's bag was released with various random new kruna items, including mounts.
8. Wisdom star approached again and together with it came double exp.

Let's hope 2012 will be a year with even more news and fun things to read about. Stay tuned with us next year as we'll keep reporting the most important facts that happen next year in the lands of Nexus: The Kingdom of Winds.

Wisdom Star is approaching

The followers of Urania, muse of astronomy have announced that a Wisdom Star is about to shine bright as the sun again at this time of the year. The forecast claims it will stay close to the lands from December 30th until January 4th and the great incidence of light will slowly melt down the ice from the long Christmas winter.

Wisdom star will start on Friday, December 30th and will last until Wednesday, January 4th. The star seems to have scared away the vortex bosses, but they should be back when the star fades.

As mentioned before, snow maps and winter items will be removed with the passing of the wisdom star on the 4th. If you have any leftover candy canes or snowballs, make sure to use them before then!

During the period of Wisdom star every experience earned has a bonus of 100% (double exp).

Nexus Wiki 1 million contest!

Santa M'hul bonus day

Yesterday it was announced the date and hour of Santa M'hul bonus day: it will be tomorrow, Friday, December 30th
from 12:00AM to 2:00AM PST (3:00AM - 5:00AM EST).

Those who didn't have a chance to get their gifts due being in a different time zone or out of town last week have now a final chance of getting their present in a few hours from now.

Nexus Atlas Security

I apologize to all of you for the security problems Nexus Atlas has recently been experiencing. I've had to back away from day to day administration of this site due to family problems and personal health issues. However Vini has been in touch with me and with the second break down I have taken measures to make sure it can't happen again. Lord Achoo has contacted our web host and they have cleaned the malware from our files. I have locked out all staff accounts other than my own. Each staff member will have to personally contact me for access so that I can instruct them about proper security and protocol. I don't believe that anyone has deliberately set out to harm this website. According to the information I've seen from our web host, it seems that some comprised files were transmitted during an FTP session. It seems some FTP Clients cannot be trusted! If you are interested in protecting yourself please read the following sites suggested by our web host:

Nexus Atlas is (not) safe again

Yes.... I can't believe it but it happened again. Nexus Atlas host once again infected us our server with malware and this time Google Chrome and Firefox are not giving preemptive warning.

If you see this message, please stay away from Nexus Atlas for now and warn your friends. I'll post on community board again when it's safe to come back, hopefully permanently next time.

Dec. 29th UPDATE: Nexus Atlas is safe again. LordAchoo has spent hours helping fix it and Allygator also added some measures to help prevent it from happening again. Thanks a lot you two!

Buya server is back working

According to KRU Interactive, the problem which kept Buya servers crashing for the past days was solved. To compensate for the downtime, they're giving 200 free kruna to every registered account.

As of last night, Nexus had a server reset to initiate a new patch to version V6.96. It introduced just small changes as posted by GM Stein on Dream weaver’s board:
  • Item protection is now stackable
  • New item Santa's bag will be appearing in the itemshop and old Christmas items have returned!

    The joy of receiving a gift!

    Santa M'hul has come and gone and the most anticipated event of the month closed with great numbers. Thousands of gifts were distributed and hundreds of different item types were inserted into the market changing the economy of common and rare items. The lines were faster just like last year, so citizens and peasants rushed through the mazes hoping to meet Santa M’hul, Santa Lasahn or Santa ChaeRi wishing to be graced by the luck of finding a Diadem or another big amazing surprising gift which could fill their pockets overnight. For the majority it was a moment of joy spent with friends & family and also meet their family royal. This year citizens were able to visit King MuHyul (Santa M’hul) at middle booth, Princess Lasahn and Emperor Aino Senshi at left booth or Prince ChaeRi at right booth. Elven assistants also stood there to help give out the gifts while the royals needed to take a break. As usual, members of the ministries of each kingdom and some important figures stood by the side of the royals helping greet each of the people reaching the end of the maze.


    Now it is time for each to grant a present to their beloved ones. Visit a kingdom messenger, purchase a gift paper and a ribbon and wrap a surprise to a special someone.

    If you missed Santa M’hul this year, don’t worry. There will be a bonus day still to be announced.

    Nexus Atlas suffered a web attack but it's safe again

    Nexus Atlas has been victim of a malware infection on December 15th afternoon. I became aware of the problem on December 16th afternoon when Metro, one of the reporters, contacted me through MSN and reached my mobile phone informing me of the problem. I was at work so I wasn't able to check FTP and Nexus Atlas home then, but I checked Google's warning and used some tools to verify the problem was a suspected injected code. I contacted Google staff members to help me find a solution and they directed me to few directions we could do to fix it.

    When I got home at 7pm EST I checked Nexus Atlas FTP and realized the problem was much bigger than I expected. All pages were infected by a malicious code. I contacted LordAchoo to help fix it and on Saturday (17th) morning, he began fixing it. Since December 17th Nexus Atlas main page has been clean from the problem and as of last night LordAchoo finished cleaning the whole site and killed the source of the bad code which was infecting us.

    Today it is safe to say LordAchoo has removed all injection attacks to the Nexus Atlas / Nexus Forum pages.

    We're back running!

    (FAQ) Frequently Asked Questions about this problem:

    1. Q. I visited Nexus Atlas recently. Will I be hacked?
    A. No. No one has been or can be hacked due to this. It is not a Trojan or a keylogger, but it's always clever to have Firewall and antivirus updated just to be 100% sure you'll be fine. I'm using Nexus Atlas normally and you can bet for sure I would be target if it made us vulnerable.

    2. Q. What's the threat to my computer?
    A. First of all, if you have a Firewall and good antivirus, there's no threat at all. The malicious code won't infect you.

    It was not a virus; it was a malware to exploit websites which spread through FTP users and hosts.

    It was a generic Malware injection attack, done to target file extensions like .shtml, nothing containing keylogger, Trojan or anything like that.

    If, by any change, you didn't have an active firewall/antivirus to protect you, there's no need to panic. First because it doesn't put you at risk of being hacked and second because you can remove this annoying malware by downloading Norton Power Eraser for free - (http://security.symantec.com/nbrt/npe.aspx?lcid=1033).

    3. Q. Will Nexus Atlas donors be affected?
    A. No. It is done via PayPal. We have no Credit Card information of any player and never will. No donation information is stored on the server except the credits to the character names of the players who donated.

    4. Q. You claim Nexus Atlas main page is fixed. Is it safe to use the site again?
    A. Yes. Mostly if you have firewall and antivirus you would have no problem reading it during the two days it was critical, but as of today, December 20th it is safe to say the whole site is back normal.

    5. Q. Did a player hack into Nexus Atlas servers to try to take it over or ruin the game?
    A. No. The failure happened through a security breech from the host itself, not from our security. The malware was an encoded JavaScript line which linked itself to all our pages. It's gone now.

    6. Q. Google still says the site isn't secure. Why should I trust you over Google?
    A. You shouldn't. By all means, Google warnings are made to protect us, so whenever they claim a site is unsafe, trust them more than anyone else. The issue is that we need to wait Google to rescan the site to realize it's not infected anymore. We can wait for it to be automatic, but I'll contact Google again to see if we can speed up the process.

    * Winter in the kingdoms! Snow has reached the kingdoms and shop owners have decorated their buildings. Rumor has it that snowballs, candy canes, and presents aren't far behind.

    * Santa Mhul is back and will be happening this year on the following dates:

    Dec. 22nd: 1-5 PM PST

    Have you ever tried to use a voice command and realized you completely forgot what was the right combination of words to make it work? Well... I have.

    To help those of you who also often forget the right combination of words for each type of voice commands, Nexus Atlas has created a new and simple section within The Nex-Files to remind about each option. To access it click the Library tab -> Nex-Files -> Practical Information -> Voice Commands.
